Breeding soundness examination and certification
The only true measure of fertility is pregnancy, however there are a range of optimal reproductive characteristics we look for which are considered necessary for a male or female to achieve these goals.
These include a normal internal and external reproductive tract, functional ovaries or testes and in males, a normal libido. Semen can be assessed to rule out potential problems, while additional testing for potentially transmissible infectious diseases and heritable genetic traits are also recommended.
Most animals a fertile and do not require in-depth assessments, however, at Vet Repro, we have all of the state-of-the art equipment required to investigate, if necessary. Endocrinological blood tests are also available to rule out sex hormone problems.
A certificate is available to owners of breeding animals to show a breeding soundness examination has been performed at a reproductive specialist establishment.
