Male Procedures

Semen Collection
Semen Collection
Semen samples can be collected for analysis for the purposes of fertility assessment or to be processed for breeding.
Each ejaculate has three separate fractions which have different purposes in breeding and some dogs require an in-season bitch to be present in order to provide an adequate sample, specifically containing the second sperm-rich fraction.

Semen collected artificially is fertile and can be used for insemination immediately, however, it can also be processed in various ways to extend the lifespan of the sperm so that it remains fertile for a prolonged period.

Vet-Repro Specialist Reproductive Practice
Here at Vet Repro, we can process chilled semen to last for up to 10 days, or freeze it in liquid nitrogen so it retains its viability indefinitely. We can also perform a wide range of tests on collected semen to assess various fertility markers and to rule out potential of causes of infertility. Please get in touch to discuss your dog’s requirements.
